Re: Increasing the length of fixed telephone subscriber

As effective from 0:00 of October 5, 2008, Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) will increase the length of the fixed telephone subscriber (including Gphone) from 6 digits to 7 digits by adding one additional number â€œ3â€ after the area code and before its current telephone subscriber number, except those provinces and cities which have used the length of 7 digits, the scope applied this time will include 53 provinces and cities as follows:

Example : telephone number (033) 654 321 will change to (033) 3 654321

In Hochiminh City the length of subscribed telephone will be increased from 7 digits to 8 digits by adding number â€œ3â€ before the current telephone number.

Example : telephone number (08) 7654321 will change to (08) 3 7654321

Specifically in extensive Hanoi (including the former Ha Tay province, Me Linh District (belonging to Vinh Phuc Province); 4 Luong Son communes and districts (belonging to Hoa Binh Province) which also use area code of 4) will increase the length of telephone subscribers from 7 digits to 8 digits by adding number â€œ3â€ before the current telephone number

telephone number (04) 7654321 will change to (04) 3 7654321
telephone number (034) 3654321 will change to (04) 3 3654321
telephone number (021) 5243210 will change to (04) 3 5243210
telephone number (0218) 9820123 will change to (04) 3 9820123

In order to provide convenient condition to customers, during the period from October 5 till October 18, 2008, customers can use parallely both methods of 6 digits or 7 digits in 53 provinces and cities, and 7 digits or 8 digits in Hanoi and Hochiminh City. The time officially to apply only 7 digits in 53 provinces and cities and only 8 digits in Hanoi and Hochiminh City for all subscribers will begin as from October 19, 2008.
